Fawn Mckay

Fawn McKay was born in Ogden Utah on September 15 1915. Fawn McKay, raised in the Mormon Church's First Family, used her literary talent and skills in researching to produce an intriguing psycho-historical biography of Joseph Smith. Published in 1945 with the title:"No Man Knows My History, she used both. The name was taken from the title of a sermon given by Joseph Smith in 1844. In the sermon, he shocked his hearers with his words: "You do not know me and you've never listened to my heart. My history is not known to anyone. The truth is that I'm not sure. Wrote the 29-year old Fawn: Since that moment of candor at least three-score writers have picked up the battle. A lot of them have denigrated him and others have praised him, some have even tried their hands at diagnosing him. The problem isn't just that the documents do not exist, but it is rather that they're wildly contradictory. In order to assemble these documents- to separate first hand accounts from thirdhand plagiarism, and to then put Mormon as well as non Mormon narratives together into an authentic mosaic, is not an difficult job. I find it both fascinating as well as an eye-opener. Fawn brodie was professionally committed to this task. Her research and writings brought her fame around the world: Thaddeus Stephens. "The Devil's Drive" (1959) The Slaughter of the South. Thomas Jefferson. Richard Nixon and An Intimate Historiography (1974).
